I'm so glad that your life brought you here to this song. If you like my content, please consider to hit the like button or to follow me. Enough of that now. Here is some background information about the song:

I love the sound of drums that are distorted using a tape effect plugin. This was the base idea when I started writing this song. Also I was listening to some Techno lately. I guess this combination led to the sound of „Plattenbau“. Now to the details: I use one chord throughout the whole intro very often. This way there is this kind of tension and the listener is just waiting for the song to actually start. When we finally arrive at the point of the first chord change it always feels way more satisfying than how it would feel if the chord progression gets introduced earlier. I used a vocal sample for „Plattenbau“ as well. I had the feeling that the voice would give the first chord change even more energy. We go from the i-chord to the V-chord once the chord progression starts. The vocal sample that played the root of the i goes one half step down to third of the V-chord. This note is technically not in the natural minor scale but in the harmonic minor scale. I really like the sound of the harmonic minor scale. It has a kind of mysterious vibe that I felt would fit well to the Techno elements. The name Plattenbau stands for those huge buildings that can be found everywhere around the former Soviet Union area and eastern Germany. Walking around those buildings gives me the exact same feeling as this song.
